Leak Repair

Is your water feature leaking?

Have you noticed the level of your pond is much lower than it should be? Are you having to add water several times a week? You might have a leak. There are two basic areas that your leak could be in, the pond or the waterfall. To figure out where your leak is, follow the instructions below.

Pond with water feature pouring southern oregon

POND LEAK
Turn off the waterfall for the day or 24 hours (Healthy fish will be ok for this short period of time)

  • Fill the pond to its normal full level.
  • Measure the level of the water in the pond.
  • Check the water level at the end of the day or the next morning.

If the water does go down, let it continue to recede until it stops.

  • The level that it stops at is where the leak is!
  • Check the sides of the pond at that level for where the liner may be pushed down by rocks or plants.
  • Pull up liner if needed

If the water level didn’t go down at all, the leak is in the waterfall not the pond.

  • Check the sides of the waterfall for places where the liner may be pushed down by rocks or plants.
  • Pull up liner if needed and adjust rocks

LEAK IN PONDLESS WATERFALL
Turn off the pump for the day or 24 hours

  • Fill the reservoir with water.
  • Mark the level of the water in the reservoir.
  • Check the water level at the end of the day or the next morning.

If the water does go down, let it continue to recede until it stops.

  • The level that it stops at is where the leak (or leaks) are!
  • If the water is leaking form the reservoir, it will need to be relined.
  • If the water is not leaking from the reservoir, the leak is likely in the waterfall section.
  • Check the sides of the waterfall for places where the liner may be pushed down by rocks or plants.
  • Pull up liner if needed

Mechanical Repair

Mechanical Repair and Troubleshooting

If your water flow has decreased, stopped, or your pump is making strange noises you might have a problem with your pump.

  1. Before giving us a call try adding water to your feature and make sure it is at its optimal water level.
  2. Check the pump housing to make sure it is clear of any debris which might be restricting its flow.
  3. Check your GFCI plug to make sure it wasn’t tripped. If so press the reset button.
  4. Unplug the pump, remove from housing, remove screen, and check to see if the impeller moves freely.
  5. If none of these actions solves your problem then you might need to replace your pump. Do so immediately.

Exploratory Repair Process

Exploratory Cleanouts Start At $600

We charge $6 a square foot of pond/ waterfall surface area.
To figure out your price first find the length and width of your pond in feet, then multiply to find the area, then multiply the area by 6 to find your exploratory price.

For most new clients with water feature leaks or issues we require an initial exploratory cleanout so that we can better serve your water feature.

An exploratory cleanout is a comprehensive look at your water feature, similar to a mechanical inspection of your car. We will drain the feature, clear it of debris, check all of the mechanical components such as the pump, plumbing, filtration, waterfall, rocks, and the liner. This helps us learn your water features unique design and needs so that we can more efficiently get to the root of any issues that may exist.

During the cleanout if we discover simple issues such as a low liner, improperly plumbed fittings, or shifting rocks, we can address them right then and there at no extra cost. If larger issues are discovered such as holes in the liner or leaking skimmers or biofalls we will stop the process and give you a price for repair.
